sabotage alfred hitchcock
Sabotage is suspenseful thriller for the 1930's which we looked at during todays lesson. this is a Alfred Hitchcock who was known as the master of suspense. within this film Hitchcock used a very clever music technique by cranking up the tension with the constantly rising pace of music and ticking clocks. the constant pop up of clocks acts as the timer for the bomb.

Preliminary Exercise - How i made the video
When making this video we first had to find a suitable location which ended up being the main corridor of the school. Before we could start filming we had to make that the area was clear. after veryfiing the location it was down to ideas we instantly thought of a short school bro-mance. myself and the other actor billy cove were given instructions to make it as camp as possible and as you have probably sen Billy did a wonderful job. :)
when we filmed it we aimed to tackle a range of different shots such as POV shots, mid-shots and dratamatic closeups to show the emotion.

Vox Pop
This week in a group of three I have made a vox pop of how people feel about thrillers and what they feel makes them good.
Firstly we had to find a spot to place the camera so that we could interview people quickly without wasting any time. when everything was ready we interviewed three people and asked them three questions these were : what is your favourite thriller ?
what do you think a thriller should include ?
what do you like about the thriller genre?
Audience Response
We got lots of feedback form the people that we asked and the main ingredient for a good thriller is suspense and tension. also lots of things were said about heroes and villains.
some of the actual films that were mentioned were phsyco, jaws and inception these are all great thriller films with the suspense and tension that is so key.

My 5 Favourite Thrillerrss :O
Phsyco
Alfred Hitchcock's powerful, complex psychological thriller, is fought of as the best of all modern horror suspense films
The graphic detail suspends and terrifys audiences of all eras.

Jaws
Jaws is one of my favourite thrillers because of the suspense and terror it starts with. it immediatly drags you in and you want to no what is attacking the character. ''Steven Spielberg's horror masterpiece – arguably the director's finest ever piece of work – set the benchmark for summertime blockbusters and few have been able to match its sheer ability to grip an audience.''
http://www.movie-gazette.com/42/jaws

The Exorcist
The Exorcist exorcist is one of my favourite ever films let alone one of my favourite thrillers i love the wat it grasps your attentention and fills you with so much fear you cannot move. this is with out a doubt one of the best films ever for me. ''The Exorcist is the best horror film ever made and there is one reason for this, the subject matter is treated with dignity and respect, too many "horror films" are made today that just don't try,it's as if they give up half way through and fall into self parody and amusement.the Exorcist is an exception and one of the very few good horror films around ''

North by Northwest
North by Northwest is a wonderful thriller. at the start when roger thornhill is mistaken for a government agent it makes you instantly wonder what is going to happen to the poor man and who they were actually looking for. this is certainly one of hitchcocks best films. ''Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" is one of the best films in his long and distinguished career. Part of the success of the movie lies in the screen play by Ernest Lehman, one of the best writers of that era.''

Alien
All this is a science fiction film it is one of the best suspense films of all time when the characters ship land son a planet for investigation they soon discover that there is live on that planet. another life form attaches itself to one of the crew and this where the suspense comes in a and you really want to see what happens.

Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred hitchcock is one of the most well known thriller film directors and is known as the master of suspense. becasue of the great suspense and tension in his films they are some of the most populer ever films. films such as north by north west and psycho. alfred hitchcock is said to have made films about his fears and tries to make the audience suffer as much as possible in temrs of anticipation and suspense.
In his films he uses many different techniques that make his films so good.
Macguffin a macguffin is a plot device that motivates characters and advances the story with little relevance to the actual story line.
Enigma An enigma is a dilema or a task that needs to be solved or completed by the protagonist by the end of the film. This is a bit like a side story line.
Red herrings A red herring is the name given to a technique and device that is designed to avert the audience away from the truth or away from an item of significance making them more suprised when this problem or item does come up within the movie.
here are some posters from his movies

No Country For Old Men :)
No country for old men is a great example of a thriller and is in the sub genre of a crime thriller. from the first scene the darkness and mystery is set. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSyC45584jM
as you can see from the video link of the first scene a man being arrested instatly draws the audiences attention to what has this man done. a short while after this a gas canister is shown this puts real suspense into the audiences mind wanting to know what the canister is for and how it relates to what is going to happen.
The scene in which the first kill occurs really makes the audience feel adrenelin and really sets the tone for the rest of the film. it is also the first moment that they get to see what the canister is actually for. the way that the killer is so calm in what he does really creates an image of sadism and enjoyment of what he does. the link below shows you the first kill.Tuesday, 28 September 2010
